How to Drive a Truck
First time behind the wheel of a pantech? Don’t worry, our Isuzu trucks drive just like an automatic car.
Abel’s Truck Driving Guide
Watch our step-by-step walkthrough before you pick up your truck — covers everything from mirrors to the tailgate lift.
Your Pre-Drive Checklist
Set both heated electric side mirrors and the convex spot mirrors before moving off.
Use the contoured adjustable driver’s seat so you can reach the pedals comfortably.
Walk around the truck — confirm headlamps, indicators, reverse alarm and roof clearance lamps are working.
Check the gauge before leaving. Return the truck with the same fuel level to avoid refuelling fees.
Compare the truck’s condition against your hire checklist. Note any existing marks with the Abel team.
The Isuzu Pantech has a loaded height of approx. 3.2m. Keep this in mind for underpasses and carparks.
On The Road
- 1 Get a feel first Drive around the block before hitting the road. The truck handles like a large automatic car — it just needs a little more space to manoeuvre.
- 2 Brake early and often Pantechs are heavier than a regular car and need extra stopping distance. Leave more room than you think you need.
- 3 Use your side mirrors There is no central rear-view mirror in a pantech. Check both side mirrors constantly, especially when changing lanes or reversing.
- 4 Allow extra room to turn The truck’s wheelbase is longer than a car — swing wider when turning at intersections to avoid clipping kerbs.
- 5 Watch your speed Stay below the maximum speed limit. A slower speed gives you more reaction time and keeps your load safe.
- 6 Watch for blind spots Check blind spots before every lane change. The convex spot mirrors help, but always do a shoulder check too.
